Chuck Liddell on going out on his shield

A lot of fans can be rather critical of fighters after losing a fight, and if it is a loss via knockout. But one of the most beautiful things about the sport and some of it's athletes is the way they fight, regardless of the outcome. For Chuck Liddell, his final fight in mixed martial arts was a loss, but it was actually a real testament to what type of fighter he is. He went out there and pushed forward trying to for the finish and put on a very exciting and entertaining fight with Rich Franklin. The very last sequence were he was knocked out was still Liddell rushing forward going for the finish and trying to achieve a finish via knockout. He went out like the warrior which we respect so much in fighters, and he had no desire to leave any other way:

To stick around...I would have had to start playing it safe...I went out on my shield. That's the way I liked it.
